American murder suspect converts to Islam in prison

RIYADH — An American expatriate accused of murdering his Sri Lankan wife has converted to Islam while in prison pending trial, Al-Hayat newspaper reported Wednesday.

The husband was Christian and his wife Buddhist.

A source told the newspaper the general court in Riyadh is currently considering the case and added that the defendant embraced Islam in prison a year after allegedly committing the crime.

Neither the American nor his wife was named.

The source said the woman's body was found in a tube used for digging oil and natural gas wells.

The prosecutor accused the American of murder and said he had taken advantage of his position in his company to obtain the tube in which he put his wife’s body after killing her.

The Sri Lankan charge d'affaires said the embassy had assigned a lawyer to represent the victim’s family in the court and added that he had complete confidence in the Saudi judicial system to get justice for her.

Police in Al-Kharj city, near Riyadh, received information from the company that the American was working for that a woman's body was found in a tube used for the exploration of oil and natural gas.

The police said they arrested the woman's husband based on the statements of a number of Saudi and Chinese workers.

The police also said the American admitted that the body was his wife's.

The police said the tube was welded shut from both sides and buried underground. They said the husband told them that his wife had been missing from home for months following a family dispute but he did not report her absence.

The source said the American was a supervisor of wells in the areas in which Saudi Aramco was exploring for oil and gas.

The source said the American ordered a Chinese worker to tightly close the tube by welding it from both sides and asked him to take the tube to about 10 meters from his home, then asked him to make the distance two meters only.

He said the accused ordered another Chinese worker to bury the garbage and three tubes, one of them containing the body, in a place away from his home.

The source said the workers took out the tube, which was buried away from the digging area, because they wanted to use a portion of it for another purpose and they noticed a bad smell coming from it.

They became suspicious and when they opened the tube they found a decomposed body in an upright position.

During investigations, the accused reportedly gave conflicting statements about the case.

He first denied that he had asked a Chinese laborer to weld the tube and take it near his home and then said he did not remember seeing the tube before.

Finally, he claimed he asked the Chinese worker to bury the garbage, not the tube.

‪‎Cairo‬ (AA) - “Rabaa sign” done by raising four fingers has become the symbol of the massacre in Egypt and Rabaa al-Adawiya Square where the anti-coup protests take place.

“Rabaa” meaning four or the fourth in Arabic has become the sign of ‪#‎anticoup‬ protests in Egypt. Just a few hours before the massacre on August 14, anti-coup protesters in Egypt tried to voice their demands to the world by raising their four fingers.

Rabaa al-Adawiya Square, being as famous as ‪‎Tahrir Square‬ in Cairo due to resistance of hundreds of thousands of anti-coup protesters going on for more than two months, has witnessed one of the gravest massacres of recent years. Besides being a grave for hundreds of people of whose has not been clarified yet one of the less known peculiarities of the square also came out.

The Square was named after a religious woman called Rabaa al-Adawiya. Since Adawiya was the fourth child of the family the Arabic adjective “rabia” is told to be affixed to her name. The fame of the name is said to come from her challenge for freedom all her life. Together with the anti-coup protests the meaning of this name gave birth to a new symbol. The anti-coup protesters in Rabaaal Adawiya raise their four fingers making “rabaa sign” both in order to refer to the name of the square and in order to distinguish themselves from the pro-coup protesters in Tahrir Square making victory sign by raising their two fingers. The rabaa sign has gradually become common in Egypt during the protest and has come to be used as common as ‪‎victory sign‬.

AA correspondent went to Rabaa al-Adawiya Square on August 13, and covered the news on the issue.

The anti-coup protesters stated that the rabaa sign, besides being the symbol of anti-coup, carries some other implications as well.

One of the protesters stated that rabaa sign refers to the name of the square, distinguishes them from the supporters of the military coup in Tahrir Square and it also refers to the fact that ‪#Mohammed Morsi‬ is the fourth president of Egypt after Nasser, Sadat and ‪#Mubarak‬.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters were shouting slogans, and making rabaa sign to the Anadolu Agency objectives. However, unfortunately just a few hours after these pictures taken by Anadolu Agency the harsh intervention of army took place and hundreds of people were killed.

-Will it be the new victory sign of Islamic world?-

Silence and indifference of western countries concerning the massacre in Egypt brought up discussions on many western values and symbols, particularly democracy. Many western concepts such as “popular will, ‪‎democracy‬, ‪humanrights‬, and ‪‎media‬ ethics” began to be questioned. Even the symbol known as victory sign made by two fingers is now questioned. The proponents of military coup and Gen. al-Sisi gathered in Tahrir Square make victory sign thus as an alternative to Tahrir people in Rabaa al-Adawiya protesting the military coup do the rabaa sign by four fingers. It is said to be the new symbol for the Islamic world.

No profile pic? Indian Mufti says posting Facebook photos is ‘un-Islamic’

An Indian Mufti has declared that posting photos on Facebook and other social media sites is “un-Islamic,” according to an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Sunday.

Abul Irfan Naimul Halim Firagni Mahli, who helps to run two telephone helplines advising people Islam related issues, said that Muslims should avoid social media sites and women in particular should refrain from posting pictures of themselves online.

“Women should not post pictures on Facebook or anywhere else on the Internet. This is un-Islamic,” he told the PTI in an interview.

“Women are not allowed to show their faces to anyone apart from their male kin like father and brothers, so posting pictures on Facebook is ‘haram’ (forbidden),” added Saif Abbas Naqvi, who also runs the helplines, in an interview with the PTI.

“We are liberal. We are not Taliban-minded. When youngsters ask us if they can have a Facebook or Twitter profile, we allow that. But the Shariah (Islamic law) does not allow women to post pictures,” Naqvi stated.

However Mahli did concede that social media usage could be justifiable if an online account was being used for business purposes.


“If one is on Facebook for business purposes or for constructive purposes, then the account is justifiable,” he stated.

Would destroy Kaaba for Bashar al-Assad’s love, Labanese minister Fayez Shukr Sraha

Lebanon: Former minister of Lebanon, Dr. Fayez Shukr Sraha in a shocking interview claimed that he would even destroy Kaabah or Kaaba, the home of Allah for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Fayez has been the founder of ‘Ba’ath Party’ besides being minister for 7 years.

Dr. Sraha in an interview to “OTV” said that he can do anything for Syrian President including demolish Kaaba. He further stated,” Kaaba was built from stones and the value of human is much more than that of the mountains and stones”.

Earlier he also claimed to destroy mountain of Israel (جبل صھیون) in the love of Bashar al-Assad.

The interviewer responded that Makkah Mukarrama is a holy place and that we must not say anything like that. In reply, Fayez said, “Ok, you can say, I want to destroy the religious place”.

He further threatened to destroy Riyadh and Jaddah if any harm is done to the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad.

Why should a Muslim manage his time?

Islam is not just a set of rules and regulations regarding prayer and fasting, but it’s a total system of life which includes searching more ways to manage the time in order to achieve personnel productivity. Islam emphasizes on “high quality” rather than “high quantity”. Therefore, every Muslim should know why time management is essential in our lives.

1. Everything we have in this worldly life is a gift from Allah; so, does the time we have.  We should make an effort to use this priceless gift from Allah to improve our relationship with Him. In short, wasting time on useless activities is abusing the most valuable gift from Almighty Allah.

2. As a Muslim, we all believe that life is limited in this world, and we have been given a specific amount of breaths to use. Every breath is taking us closer to our death. So, to complete our worldly and spiritual tasks efficiently, we must have a good time management. Better time management can help you feel more relaxed, less stressed and focus on one task at a time.

3. Time management is very important to maintain a consistent life around Islam. Our sworn enemy; Shaytan will present us with plenty of distractions to make us put the good things off for later and eventually forget about it. However, with a well-organized time management around Islamic activities we can keep us away from procrastination; which is a powerful tool of Shaytan.

4. five times obligatory prayers are the most important duty of a Muslim’s daily life. Therefore, planning our day is inevitable to perform our prayers without any delays. “Busy” is not a valid excuse to put off Fardh Prayers to a later time. Always remember! Prayer can make a busy life easy, not vice versa.

5. One of the biggest regrets a man will feel at the time of his death would be about the time he wasted in useless stuff. He will be shown all his deeds, good and the evil as “Flash back”. If you need to avoid regrets on your death-bed, then you need to manage your time starting from now; no matter if you are a kid or an adult. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said the following regarding everyone who managed their time in this world to seek the pleasure of Allah.

“The Angels are present with one who dies,  and if a believer dies, they say,  ‘Come out,  good soul,  which was in the good body;  come out praiseworthy and be happy with rest and provision and a Lord Who is not angry.’   That continues to be said to it till it comes out.   It is then taken up to Heaven and the door is opened for it.  The angels are asked who this is and reply that he is so and so, whereupon these words are spoken: ‘Welcome, good soul,  which was in the good body; enter praiseworthy and be happy with rest and provision  and a Lord Who is not angry.” (Tirmidhi)
